BIOGRAPHY
1957-
With a photography and painting degree from Ohio Wesleyan University, Susan Paulsen went on to create a vision of ordinary objects made preternaturally interesting and infused with charm. Typically shooting in American settings – Block Island or Bedford, New York – Paulsen attaches an intimacy to her portraiture and symbolic meaning to an enigmatic crow, a dog’s profile or a litter of Labrador puppies. Exhibitions include a 2004 solo show at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris. She created the photographic imagery for Tomatoes on the Back Porch, a book that contains essays by Robert Benton and Jean-Luc Monterosso.
