Renowned for his series The Somnambulist, Days at Sea and Deja Vu, Ralph Gibson studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and worked as an assistant to Dorothea Lange and, later, to Robert Frank.  Gibson is considered a master of surreal photography; his images possess subtlety with a powerful punch line.  His cinematic vision — sweeping the viewer into a scene full of innuendo — is included in such public collections as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Norton Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
