BIOGRAPHY
1979-
Nicolas Lobo was born in Los Angeles. He graduated from the Cooper Union in 2004, and lives and works in Miami. He has exhibited widely, including MOCA, North Miami; the Miami Art Museum, Marlborough Chelsea, Lisa Cooley Gallery, and Invisible Exports. Lobo designs systems of assimilation. Looking to absorb as much material as possible, he focuses on the interaction of the hand with cultural, emotional and technological systems of consumption. Lobo’s activities re-examine the use value of the hand in a knowledge economy, countering the craft association typical of hand marks in favor of ambiguous, aggressively industrial methods. Lobo outlines consumption on an unlimited scale rather than investing in discrete items, widening the human hands traditional scope of influence in the post-information age.
