BIOGRAPHY
1944-
Hailing from Minnesota, Lynn Davis graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1970, and in 1974 became an apprentice to Berenice Abbott. Davis’s first exhibition at the International Center of Photography in 1979 included figurative work. But in 1986, while photographing icebergs in Greenland, she reached an aesthetic epiphany using monumental landscapes, architectural forms and, subsequently, cultural and architectural icons as her subject matter. Davis often utilizes vintage cameras and employs split-toning to produce a restrained but majestic look.
