BIOGRAPHY
Born 1959
Kirsi Mikkola was born in Helsinki, Finland in 1959 and studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, and later at Hochchule der Künste and Meisterschüler, Hdk in Berlin. Exhibiting primarily in Germany, the United States and her native Finland, Mikkola became known during the 1990s for her colorful, cartoonish plaster sculptures. After a hiatus, she returned to the art world with a new method of creation: painting paper, cutting it into strips, and layering it all into a thickly woven, relief-style surface. Mikkola currently lives and works in Berlin.
