1937-

Exhibiting with the Young Contemporaries in 1961, David Hockney became synonymous with the British Pop movement.  Hockney reconfigured his intentionally rudimentary style to give expression to his gregarious wit.  Moving to Los Angeles in 1963 provided Hockney with the lifestyle and landscape with which he became identified: sophisticated and stylish scenes with iconic swimming pools.  Later, his seminal A Bigger Grand Canyon series, graphic investigations of geological strata rendered in a warm palette, cemented his stature.  Set designs for the Royal Court Theatre, La Scala and the Metropolitan Opera in New York exposed Hockney’s protean skills.  His work is in the permanent collections of The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, the J. Paul Getty Museum and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
