“Search the history of American Art and you will discover few watercolors more beautiful than those of Charles Demuth,” said Ken Johnson’s New York Times critique. Demuth’s studio overlooked his beloved garden. Trained at Drexel Institute of Art, Science and Industry and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, his life with the avant-garde in Paris and further courses at Académie Colarossi and Académie Julian precipitated the movement Demuth quintessentially manifested – Precisionism, a refinement of Cubism.  His work entered the permanent collections of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Phillips Collection and others, some bequested through Georgia O’Keeffe.
