Candida Hofer

Candida Hofer Biography

Born 1944

Candida Höfer’s work, a study of vacancy within architectural environments, emerged from the Kunstakademie Dusseldorf and photography classes with Bernd and Hilla Becher.  In large-format photographs she projects both the vastness of public spaces and their intimacy.  Each space becomes an entity apart from its function.  Höfer is considered one of the greats of an international photographic community.  Her work is found in the collections of the Centre Pompidou, the Museo Nacional, Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, the Norton Museum of Art and the Getty Museum.
