April Gornik is known for her American landscape paintings. In 1976 Gornik received a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Nova Scotia, Canada.  She has shown extensively in one-person and group shows in the United States and abroad.

Gornik received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Guild Hall Museum in 2003, and was the Neuberger Museum’s Annual Honoree in 2004.  Gornik is the wife of the painter Eric Fischl, who she met while attending NSCAD University. She presently lives and works in New York City and North Haven, Long Island, NY.
