Jessica Burstein Biography

Educated in Switzerland and New York, Jessica Burstein began her career as the first female staff photographer for the NBC network. Her work has appeared in countless publications and magazines, worldwide, and she was the official photographer for the entire Law & Order franchise. Burstein’s work is in private and corporate collections and she has had numerous gallery and museum exhibitions, including  a solo exhibition at the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film. Burstein has also been an instructor at the Maine Media Workshops.  Her work continues to travel as part of an on-going exhibit begun at the United Nations.  Jessica Burstein has two mainstream published books: “The Grandmother Book” and "Law & Order Crime Scenes", as well as a book, "Last Looks" that she created to memorialize Law & Order: Criminal Intent's final season (2011). For close to a decade, Burstein was commissioned by HBO to create a series of photomontage murals for the walls of its NYC headquarters. As well, she documented the famed watering hole, Elaine's, which became her virtual studio, at the request of its owner, from 1992 until 2011. Ms. Burstein was the Yankees' commissioned fine arts photographer for the building of the new Yankee Stadium. She serves on the National Executive Board of the International Cinematographers Guild, representing the entertainment industry’s stills photographers.
