Harold Edgerton experimented with Milk Drop Coronet from the ‘30s through the ‘50s, seeking to achieve a perfect coronet.  The stroboscope equipment he invented and used at MIT to study synchronous motors for his doctoral thesis caught mundane objects in motion.  Photographing a stream of water bridged science and aesthetics and posed the question:  What are we missing with the naked eye?  Edgerton was honored by the Royal Photographic Society (1934) and won the National Medal of Science (1973), and, in 1987, National Geographic published an article entitled “Doc Edgerton:  The man who made time stand still.”
