Dieter Appelt Biography

1935

Within Dieter Appelt’s imagery, serial manifestations of built objects — constructs that may later become sculptures — document movement.Rings in water or patterns in stone that suggest a dynamic through time are his muse. In the mid-’50s Appelt studied music, particularly the nontraditional rhythmic patterns of Arnold Schoenberg. He met the experimental photographer Heinz Hajek-Halke at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin and first exhibited there in the mid-’70s. Appelt lives and works in Berlin.
